That SS ignores the obvious—that this guy is stealing other people’s hard work without attribution—is depressing.
It also highlights how distorted the overall atmosphere has become online amidst ongoing enshitification—murky and semi-criminal—but that’s OK because: CONTENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah exactly — doing news aggregation is great, and necessary. Get people news where they are. My point is he’s doing it in an unsustainable way. The stuff you’re talking about is a result of platform enshittification (google not working great) and the structural issues facing press outlets (although i feel like front pages online are not as barren as you describe). These problems are worsened by the approach to “content” which I see Parnas kinda representing.
His idea is sound and he’s filling a gap. The issue is he’s expanding that gap as he fills it, by working generally without attributing. There’s a way to do this more responsibly and maybe he will — his last two videos cited sources.
What spurred me to criticize was Substack’s embrace of him, and my conviction that work like his is too important to be done without care and professional courtesy.
Yeah, it's totally fair to push for citations. Great point.
I just see so many bashing him on TikTok for a variety of crappy reasons and I thought you were just on that bandwagon.
I feel like he is my starter pack for keeping up with the barrage of crap going on. I have found no other way to really keep up. Tips for additional starter sources are welcome!
Very strange but in keeping with the times.

This is on us; we have no standard, we're barely literate, and with no time to correct. Fwiw I appreciate your work.
Thank you
Go to Google News (also an aggregator) to see what's going on.
Notice many articles are 3 days old and sometimes more. (What context are they providing? No more than Parnas.)
See nothing new.
Go over to NYT or Politico. Look at what's up top. Not a lot.
Go to Parnas. Get caught up on 5 stories in less than 5 min.
Google the ones that were not on my radar to get more details.
He's not a reporter and never said he is one.
He has helped put stories on my radar that I was not seeing by looking at headlines or the front page of any media outlet.
THAT is useful.
Not sure why so many haters are hating on him other than, anyone who's getting attention, collects hate.
